From a Commodore 64 to a Global Church Platform
In 1989, while serving as a youth leader in Hillsboro, Oregon, SteepleMate’s founder, Brent Long, saw a need.
Churches were managing contributions with pen, paper, and calculators… time-consuming work that distracted from ministry.
With a Commodore 64 and a passion for serving the church, he built his first contribution tracking system.
A Heart Shaped by Ministry
Brent’s journey wasn’t just technical. After college, he planted churches and served as a missionary in Mexico City.
There, he saw ministries both large and small, resource-rich and resource-limited. The lesson was clear: every church, no matter its size, deserves affordable and accessible tools for ministry.
The Spark in North Little Rock
Years later, at his home church in Arkansas, Brent noticed congregants scribbling prayer requests on slips of paper at the sanctuary doors. He imagined something more connected… something that would unite the church in prayer in real time.
What began as a digital prayer request system transformed the culture of prayer in that church. Members didn’t just write requests; they prayed together instantly. And from that innovation, the blueprint for SteepleMate was born.
From Prayer to a Full Suite
In October 2018, SteepleMate officially launched. The first release carried that same DNA of prayer and connection but quickly expanded:
